Chances are, if you are reading this, then you are very fond of music.

Music is a universal language that affects nearly everyone. As ambassadors of music, we must share this passion and joy with the world. It’s basically our civic duty. If you share this sentiment, you are in luck because Make Music Day is JUST around the corner.

Make Music Day began in France in 1982, and it is an incredible phenomenon. Artists and music lovers perform and interact with with the general public by simultaneously playing music all day at venues all over each participating city. To date, over 800 cities and 120 countries participate. This year’s Make Music Day will be June 21st. Here is a snippet from their website about the day:

“Completely different from a typical music festival, Make Music is open to anyone who wants to take part. Every kind of musician — young and old, amateur and professional, of every musical persuasion — pours onto streets, parks, plazas, and porches to share their music with friends, neighbors, and strangers. All of it is free and open to the public.”

If you want to be involved, there are two ways:

1. Artist: simply got the website and register with your email. Create a profile, choose your venue and time frame, and submit any other pertinent information about you or your act.
2. Venue: much like the artist, you must register as a venue. You’ll need to define the time frame and equipment available for the artists. Then, artists can register at your venue, and it will be added to the Make Music Columbia website.
