Maybe you need piano lessons for a young beginner. Perhaps you need piano lessons because you want to play better in your band or prepare for a performance. Or, maybe you need piano lessons because you are an adult that always wanted to play, but never had the support or opportunity. Regardless of your style, level, or goals, Freeway Music is absolutely the best place in Columbia, SC to take piano lessons. Here are some things that set Freeway Music’s program apart:

  1. Our Piano Instructors

Our piano instructors are among the most respected teachers in Columbia, SC, and here’s why.

    • Continuing Education

Not only are the Freeway Music piano instructors highly qualified, but their continuing education is a vital part of being a piano teacher in our studio. Many of our teachers are pursuing masters and doctoral degrees at The University of South Carolina.  We encourage continual growth as a part of our culture at Freeway Music. Our instructors often take private piano lessons with other instructors within the studio to strengthen different parts of their playing.

    • Locally Involved

All of our piano instructors are respected members of the local music scene. We have piano teachers that play in popular local and regional bands. Some instructors hold down regular jazz gigs at Pearlz UpstairsSpeak Easy, and other jazz venues. Others are the assistant directors for The SEPF(Southeastern Piano Festival).  We have the hardest working staff in town. They are constantly performing and supporting the music scene in Columbia, SC.

    • Winning Personality

You are sure to have a pleasant experience in each of your piano lessons. Our instructors are genuinely concerned with the growth of each piano student. They are also personable and relay information in a simple way.

  2. Performance Opportunities

At Freeway Music, we pride ourselves on offering our students more performance opportunities than any other music school in Columbia, SC.

    • Piano Recitals

Our recitals are not your run-of-the-mill recitals. Each instructor is in charge of picking their date, venue, and customizing it to create a unique experience. This gives instructors ownership and makes the recital more special, personalized, and exciting.

    • Festival Performance

We encourage our piano students to participate in festivals. This is a great way to set goals for students and create inspiration outside of their standard piano lessons. Having staff members that help direct festivals such as the SEPF makes it easier for our students to become involved.

    • Showcases

We often pair our piano students with other students to form groups that rehearse and perform in showcases.  Some of the venues include: New Brookland TavernTin Roof, and Music Farm (Columbia’s only music venue with a 1200 person capacity). There are several clips from our showcases and recitals on our YouTube channel. It’s amazing to see the level of excitement this adds to a student’s piano lessons! They practice so hard in preparation, and the experience is so rewarding.

  3. Technology:

A major part of our piano instructors’ training includes incorporating apps and technology, seamlessly and creatively, into their piano lessons.

    • Apps

Apps allow the instructor to enhance and accelerate the student’s understanding of rhythm, sight reading, tuning, ear training, practicing, notating, and more.

    • Equipment

The piano lesson rooms are equipped with speakers, laptop stands, music stands, and a dry erase board. Our pianos our regularly tuned and we have high speed internet. Each of our instructors has a laptop, tablet, or other device to enhance the piano lesson experience. We also have digital pianos or keyboards available to enable midi control for notation, experimenting with sounds, and interacting with various apps.

    • Blogs and Online Resources

Freeway Music has a wide array of blogs available for piano students to read and educate themselves on various topics. Students can also find piano core materials and a list of suggested businesses on our resources page. Instructors often use online resources and tools to enhance their piano lessons.
