Born in Bulgaria but raised in South Carolina, pianist Yonie Penev, 24, recently
received a Master’s Degree in Piano Performance at the University of South Carolina,
under the tutelage of Dr. Joseph Rackers. He has studied with Dr. Rackers from a previous undergraduate degree also from UofSC.
Yonie is active in all genres of classical music, enjoying solo performances, chamber music, and providing church music. Chamber music experience includes choral, vocal, string, brass, woodwind, musicals and various other chamber ensembles combinations. He also loves
accompanying dance classes at the UofSC Department of Theatre and Dance. Some
of his favorite activities outside of music include running, being outdoors, and
reading. He is excited to help his students learn and grow their love of music at Freeway!
