Alyssa’s journey with music started at a very early age. Her parents exposed her to all kinds of genres. She listened to pop, country, bachata, salsa, merengue, 80s rock and pop, etc. Alyssa made it clear that she wanted to learn as much about music as possible. When she was twelve, she started taking piano lessons. She continued to take lessons all the way through high school, and even started taking lessons with Jenna McSwain at Freeway Music. Jenna was her first voice coach.
Alyssa was awarded an academic scholarship to Newberry College. Alyssa’s college experience made her realize her passion for voice, so she switched from piano to voice after her freshman year. She studied classical music and received her degree in church music with an honors certificate in vocal performance. While at Newberry, Alyssa sang in opera scenes, in choirs, with the jazz combo, and with the jazz big band. She is extremely excited to share her knowledge of voice and music with aspiring students.
