Katera (West Columbia, SC) began singing as a toddler and quickly grasped the attention of her parents after discovering her ability to hear and play melodies on the piano without any training. Notice of her musical gifts continued in her early years of grade school by her music teacher who suggested to her parents that she audition for a singing part in a commercial.
Katera continued singing in her school’s choral programs through high school and became director of her high school’s gospel choir during her years as an upperclassman. Aspiring to be a solo artist, she began recording original material her senior year of high school.
After graduation, Katera continued her education at the University of South Carolina where she was a member of the “A Touch of Faith” gospel choir. Through talent showcases and the Internet, Katera began building her fan base performing cover songs of her favorite artists. In an effort to take her performance and songwriting to a higher level Katera began studying acoustic guitar.
Her craft has landed her performances at some of Columbia’s most popular events to include Black Expo South, Rhythm On The River and The Auntie Karen Legends of Concert Series. Having been billed with some of the best blues/soul artists on the scene, to include Chaka Khan and Angie Stone, Katera aspires to write songs for major label artists and tour the world performing her own music.
