Katie Gandy
I am Katie Gandy, a local musician who would love to get you or your
kin interested in the extensive world of theoretical knowledge and the
vast and creative world of musical discovery.
I have been playing music (guitar, piano, and vocals) for as long as I
can remember, though I began my instructional journey at the age of
14. Former student of Laurel MacCallum (vocal instructor) and current
student of Drew Medlin (guitar instructor), I have simultaneously been
incorporating those skills into the live music I provide around the
area. The list of projects I have currently been applying said skills
to consists of the gypsy jazz group, Flat Out Strangers [vocals], the
all-female folk-rock original band, Paisley and the Birdwalkers [bass
guitar], the alternative rock original arrangement, OUTEREGO [vocals],
and my sometimes solo and sometimes accompanied act entitled Kat
Gandy. In the past, I have also played with Kate Vera, Jeff Lucero,
Rod Franco & Friends, and more.
In addition to live gigs, I write and record my own original music and
would be very interested in assisting any student wishing to explore
the depths in which that form of expression has to offer. I have been
teaching the ways of the voice at Freeway for close to 3 years now and
have been accepting guitar students for the past year, though I also
play viola, piano, and try to study anything I can initially get a
sound out of. This leaves me open to wander many or [really] any path
that music coaxes us down during our lessons.
I enjoy my time at Freeway Music and am ready to welcome any of those
to the Freeway fam who are ready to enjoy it right along with me.
