Violin Lessons

Maybe you need violin lessons for a young beginner. Perhaps you need violin lessons because you want to perform better in your school orchestra or prepare for an all state/region audition. Or, maybe you need violin lessons because you are an adult that always wanted to play, but never had the support or opportunity. Regardless of your style, level, or goals, Freeway Music is absolutely the best place in Columbia, SC to take violin lessons. Here are some things that set Freeway Music’s program apart:

  1. Our Violin Instructors

Our violin instructors are among the most respected teachers in Columbia, SC, and here’s why.

    • Continuing Education

Not only are the Freeway Music piano instructors highly qualified, but their continuing education is a vital part of being a piano teacher in our studio. Many of our teachers are pursuing masters and doctoral degrees at The University of South Carolina.  We encourage continual growth as a part of our culture at Freeway Music. Our instructors often take private lessons with other instructors within the studio to strengthen different parts of their playing.

    • Locally Involved

Our violin instructors are very active in the local music scene and community. Some instructors play in the South Carolina Philharmonic, Greenville Symphony, the Savannah Symphony, and other prestigious symphonies in the region. Others play fiddle in Irish, bluegrass, and gypsy jazz outfits such as Syr and the Flat Out Strangers.

    • Winning Personality

You are sure to have a pleasant experience with each violin instructor. Not only are the instructors genuinely concerned with the growth of each violin student, but also they are personable and relay information in a simple way.

  2. Performance Opportunities

At Freeway Music, we pride ourselves on offering our students more performance opportunities than any other music school in Columbia, SC.

    • Violin Recitals

Our recitals are not your run-of-the-mill recitals. Each instructor is in charge of picking their date, venue, and customizing it to create a unique experience. This gives instructors ownership and makes the recital more special, personalized, and exciting.

    • Chamber Music

We just recently started Freeway Music groups including string quartets at various levels. This offers a great experience for violin students to play in a smaller settings than their school orchestra, and larger than their private lessons can offer. This opens up a whole new set of repertoire for our students.

    • Showcases

We often pair our violin students with other students to form groups that rehearse and perform in showcases.  Some of the venues include: New Brookland TavernTin Roof, and Music Farm (Columbia’s only music venue with a 1200 person capacity). There are several clips from our showcases and recitals on our YouTube channel.

  3. Technology:

A major part of our violin instructors’ training includes incorporating apps and technology, seamlessly and creatively, into their lessons.

    • Apps

Apps allow the instructor to enhance and accelerate the student’s understanding of rhythm, sight reading, tuning, ear training, practicing, notating, and more. We have high speed internet, and each of our instructors has a laptop, tablet, or other device to enhance the violin lesson experience.

    • Music Achievement Program and Practice Schedule

We have a patented custom system to measure students achievements, community involvement, and electives. We offer rewards to students as they pass levels. This is all shared with our parents, students, and teachers on Google Sheets. Our violin students and teachers also share their practice schedule through Google Sheets as well. Students and parents can track progress from
