Freeway Music — Columbia, SC’s Premier Music School

Drew Medlin

Drew Medlin has been playing guitar for over twenty years. He started teaching in 2002, offering lessons on bass and guitar. He also has taught mandolin and ukulele. Drew started taking lessons at The Fine Arts Center in Greenville, South Carolina from Los Angeles session guitarist, Steve Watson. He later moved backed to Columbia and took lessons from the inventor of the “Quantum Vision System,” Robert Newton. Drew earned a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies from the University of South Carolina in 2016 while studying under Bert Ligon.

He is well versed in all guitar styles and draws from his years of playing experience. His experience with ear training, reading music, and playing in many different professional settings allows Drew to give his students a musical “edge.”

Drew has maintained a successful teaching studio for fifteen years. He teaches his students not only how to play music, but also how to improv, read music, and perform. His students participate in quarterly recitals where they get the chance to perform with a full band and play at local venues. Many of his students have gone on to have great success and have received scholarships from Berklee College of Music, the University of South Carolina, and Winthrop University. His students also participate in their high school Jazz Bands, their churches’ praise bands, and some have formed their own bands.

Drew has a passion for music and teaching. He loves challenging his students to get better through the many avenues the modern guitarist must know.
