Jam Room Music Festival Preview
Now only weeks away, Jam Room Music Festival returns to downtown Columbia November 12 featuring a lineup of acts primarily from the Carolinas. Headlining the festival, which is now in its 5th year is Durham, North Carolina act The Mountain Goats, joined by fellow NC acts Gold Light, Mount Moriah and Boulevards. The rest of the lineup is rounded out by a slew of great South Carolina acts including The Restoration, Brave Baby, Glass, MyBrother MySister, Boo Hag, Fall of an Empire, and Preach Jacobs. The loan artist from outside the Carolinas is Athens, GA folk artist Scott Low, although Glass also call Athens home, but are originally from Greenville.
The festival, which is free again this year deserves some good fortune on the weather front this year. Last year’s festival took place on the same weekend as the flood, and then moved some acts to the following week that ended up getting rained out too. They salvaged what they could, with a late show at Art Bar and some acts at the Columbia Museum of Art, but for the most part it was a wash as everyone was advised (smartly) to not leave their home.
The music lineup really stays strong all day, kicking off with The Restoration, who even though they hardly ever play live, are one of Columbia’s best live acts. One of their few shows this year was at Freeway Music Festival where they put on an amazing performance at Tin Roof. After 4:30 almost every act is a must see act, from the rising young rock of Glass and Brave Baby, to Mount Moriah, Boulevards, and Mountain Goats, who are three of North Carolina’s top acts who we’re lucky to have in town. There’s a lot going on this weekend in Columbia, but make it a point to stop in at JRMF at some point during the day to check out some music and enjoy Columbia’s rising Main Street District.
