Showcases and Recitals
We often pair our guitar students with other students to form groups that rehearse and perform in showcases and recitals. Some of the venues include: New Brookland Tavern, Tin Roof, and Music Farm (Columbia’s only music venue with a 1200 person capacity). There are several clips from our showcases and recitals on our YouTube channel.

Open Mics and Open Jams
Students don’t have to wait until showcases or recitals for playing experience. They can attend one of the many open mics and jams that Freeway Music hosts throughout the city. We host our open mic nights at places like: Drip, Beef O’ Brady’s, and Social Grill. Freeway Music even has an open jazz jam every other Tuesday at Delaney’s in Five Points. We keep our events posted on the website to make it easy for students to keep up with what is going on.

Events and Concert
Beyond showcases, recitals, and open mic opportunities, students will have exclusive access to many events and concerts. Some of the recent events include: The St. Patrick’s Day Parade, The Okra Strut, Rhythm on the River, Freeway Music Festival, and First Flush Festival (featuring acts such as Sheryl Crow).

The Use of Technology in Guitar Lessons:
A major part of our guitar instructors’ training includes incorporating apps and technology, seamlessly and creatively, into their lessons.

Apps
Apps allow the instructor to enhance and accelerate the student’s understanding of rhythm, sight reading, tuning, ear training, guitar neck awareness, practicing, and more.

Equipment
The guitar lesson rooms are equipped with amps that have clean, distortion, effects, and tuners. All rooms have speakers for playing music, beats, and backing tracks. Each room also has a stand, cables, and all standard necessities for guitar lessons. Each instructor uses their laptop, tablet, or other device to enhance the guitar lessons.

Students can also find guitar core materials and a list of suggested businesses on our resources page. Instructors often use online resources and tools to create the best possible lesson experience. We offer guitar lessons for rock, country, blues, jazz, and most every style. Some of our teachers have degrees in jazz studies and some of them play in rock groups.
